The Namesake

Who would've ever thought that Kal Penn would end up in the White House??? Better question yet...who would've ever thought that Kal Penn would be casted in a non comedic role?

You don't need to answer that...it's rethoric

I watched "The Namesake" a couple of days ago, and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. There is some beatiful cinematography, especially in the scenes that take place in India. And the acting is superb!

I'm sure most of you know Kal Penn as "Kumar," the infamous stoner from "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle," and "Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay." However, you have never known Kal Penn as "Gogol," the protagonist of this touching drama.

This movie tells the story of an Indian family living in the U.S., and their struggles to blend in while also attempting to preserve their traditions. I found that this movie did a great job with this subject and shows how ethnic identity changes from one generation to another.

The beginning of the movie is a little slow, but it is necessary to set up the events that follow and for the audience to better understand what happens later.

If you are in the mood of watching a touching drama dealing with ethnic identity and family dynamics, "The Namesake" might be worth your time...it was definitely worth mine.

I give it a rating of 4.5/5
